Hi all
just want to share with you some user feedback running SAP on VMWare , which I got from a DSAG (German-speaking SAP User group ) Work Group Meeting .
A lot of companies run SAP on VMWare in Production , a number of others thinking about . The feedback : SAP run on VMWare without problems if you do proper sizing and design .
Some Feedback from successful Installations :
- Important proper sizing and design .
Add 30% more physical Memory to the VMWare Servers compare to the native SAP Servers before . - Storage Layout and sizing is critical :
use RDM or multiple VMFS on multiple Luns was some feedback. - Don't assign more vcores then you have physical cores , VMWare is waiting to assign a vcore until a physical core is
- free.
Challenges today:
- Missing one general Doc from SAP on SAP on VMWare , good sources : Oss Note 674851 or in the sdn /virtualization .
- Performance Monitoring , as you consolidate multiple SAP Systems , hard identify performance issues . My take on this Documentation and some Tools are missing .
