Introducing NetApp StorageGRID
Almost two months have past since the first public announcement about
NetApp's acquisition of Bycast, and I'm pleased to announce the launch
of NetApp StorageGRID, along with the launch of my new blog, Object
Matters.
When NetApp acquired Bycast, both of our companies gained access to many
things, including technology, products, people, experience, vision, and
wisdom. And as we've become one, we're now hard at work on both short
and long-term initiatives to provide industry-leading object storage
offerings. And, as the first announcement of many to come, I'm proud to
introduce NetApp StorageGRID.
NetApp StorageGRID is a time-proven object storage solution for managing
petabyte-scale globally distributed repositories. In short, it is a
marriage of the best of NetApp storage with the best of Bycast
StorageGRID. Designed for large content repositories, NetApp StorageGRID
is targeted at markets such as those Bycast served in the past, and
leverages NetApp's unified storage platform to reduce footprint,
decrease cost and increase storage density.

Objects Matter
Within NetApp, my new role moving forward is technical director,
responsible for object storage. Object storage represents the next major
storage interface, and as an emerging technology, the advantages, use
cases and application of object storage are still relatively unknown in
the industry. Thus, the title of my new blog here at NetApp reflects my
primary goal: to explain why Objects Matter, why object storage is so
important, and to explain how it can benefit you.
I look forward to sharing my thoughts, perspectives, and what we're
doing at NetApp in this exciting area of storage. Please join me on this
journey as object storage emerges as the third major storage interface,
alongside file and block as an integral part of the world's leading
unified storage platform.
