Hi All,
This is neto from Brazil
How are you?
This post announces the availability of SnapManager 3.0 for Oracle (SMO 3.0) for production release and first customer ship. This release provides enhanced support of secondary storage solutions, significant Recovery Time Objective (RTO) improvements, scheduling, usability improvements, and expanded platform support.
SnapManager automates and simplifies the complex, manual and time-consuming backup, restore, recovery, and cloning of Oracle Databases. It leverages the NetApp technology stack to provide near instantaneous and space-efficient backup, restore, and cloning for Oracle Databases. The ability to create, use, and delete clone databases for use by non-production teams is another key capability that highlights the value of SnapManager for Oracle. SnapManager integrates with native Oracle technology and allows IT organizations to scale their storage infrastructure to meet increasingly stringent SLA commitments while improving the productivity of database and storage administrators across the enterprise.
Key SnapManager features for use in a range of Oracle environments include:
1. Integration with Oracle Databases 9i™, 10g™, and 11g™ to facilitate online backups with zero downtime.
2. Automation/Management of the backup, restore, and recovery processes using either the graphical or the command-line interface.
3. SnapManager provides unique and compelling ability to create writeable database clones of both online and offline backups utilizing NetApp FlexClone™ technology to effectively support multiple development, test and support environments.
4. SnapManager’s Graphical User Interface (GUI) provides a centralized place for data management for Oracle Databases across the enterprise.
5. SnapManager provides the functionality via both GUI and Command Line Interface (CLI), The latter option provides additional flexibility in creating custom scripts.
The following features are included in the 3.0 release of SnapManager for Oracle.
Policy-driven data protection (PDDP)
PDDP enables database and application administrators to effectively protect their data on secondary storage leveraging features and functionality that previously required storage administration intervention. PDDP allows storage administrators to set acceptable parameters for database and application data protection, and create policies to automate the functionality. Automation also assures that policies are enforced.
PDDP provides integration with both SnapMirror and SnapVault solutions
Finally, PDDP integration with SM and SV solutions will enable the capability of creating clones on secondary storage. Cloning on secondary storage allows a DBA or SAP administrator to easily create test and development environments
Significantly improved Recovery Time Objectives (RTO)
SnapManager(s) for Oracle and SAP will now offer users the ability to perform a volume level restore of their database. Doing so will reduce restore times to minutes, enabling much faster RTO's to Oracle and SAP administrators.
Scheduling of Backups via GUI
The 3.0 release will introduce a GUI scheduler. Administrators will be able to create and modify schedules that will automatically execute SnapManager backups on a regular, recurring basis.
Usability Enhancements
Current uses will experience a significant number of usability enhancements to the product. The most notable among these is a reorganization of servers and profiles, the ability to execute multiple actions concurrently, as well as the ability to manipulate the settings on multiple profiles in a single operation.
Broad platform and host environment support
SMO and SMSAP will support all platforms and host environments supported by SnapDrive for Unix 4.1.
Remember... December, 4th - Happy Birthday SnapManager for Oracle 3.0 and SnapManager for SAP 3.0.
All the best
