Brian Rawlings, correctly, took me to task over my parochial focus on WAFL as the only Better Than Real Fibre Channel technology.
The reality is that the kind of things WAFL does are being done by other vendors. I'll claim not as well, or not as elegantly or not as completely, but there are other vendors who are breaking with Traditional Storage Array architectural orthodoxy that disk layout must correspond to what the client thinks the disk layout is.
So just for the record, the other guys include but are not limited to the folks at 3Par, Compellent, and Equallogic.
And for the record, the future belongs to us (just that more of the future belongs to NetApp :-))
