I recently deleted all of my data at home with 3 keystrokes. Yes, all.
400GB collected over more than a decade, including precious family photos and important tax records. Poof!
This is what happened while upgrading and moving hard drives between two desktops at 1 am. I realized my error as I released the third key. I can confirm that there is no "undo" when operating in the RAID BIOS, and that RAID 1 is no protection against stupidity.
Fortunately I had backups from 6 months ago for most of the data, and week-old copies of my critical finance and email files. Otherwise I would still be depressed.
This incident painfully reinforced two truths:
1) People - not technology - are the leading cause of data loss
2) Everybody needs a DR strategy (see #1)
