My "official" bio is rather boring to anybody who would be interested in this blog.
Some of the more pertinent factoids include:
- I joined NetApp in 2000. Dave Hitz was my 3rd interview, so he is actually to blame! I remain captivated by his vision and focus.
- My team sets the engineering investment agenda for ~½ of NetApp’s portfolio, including all HW, WAFL & the Data ONTAP release train.
- I travel a lot (>150km in 2007), mostly to visit customers. I particularly enjoy the candor in Australia, and have set my GPS to an aussie accent.
- I run a small IT shop at home. We have 8 high-performance desktop clients, plus up to 4 laptop clients in our house during holidays.
- The reason we have so many clients is that we game a lot. Most weekends we have LAN parties. If you have never tried this, you should!
- I build PCs for friends as a hobby. This and my home-IT responsibilities help keep me grounded in technology trends and issues.
- I usually carry a USB drive with utilities to help tune-up colleagues clients. Most people have no clue about the icons in the lower right of their screen.
- I'm on a first-name basis with customer-service managers at two local Fry's locations, and visit these stores for entertainment.
