Sometimes saving $$ on Storage can be fun...
This past week, I was invited by the nice people from DataLink (NetApp STAR partner) to present at their roadshow here in Raleigh. The focus was on solutions where VMware and NetApp were being utilized to drive greater efficiency in customer's Data Centers.
My favorite part of these roadshow events is that we always invite some local customers to talk about how they are using VMware and NetApp technology to solve a business problem. The talks are completely informal, very candid (some good things, some bad things) and they usually lead to great Q & A from the audience. One of the speakers was Ben Gent from Revlon. Ben talked about the challenges they face running a global operation where parts of it are highly regulated (cosmetics are considered a "drug" by the FDA). And like many VMware / NetApp customers today, he talked about massive cost savings and footprint consolidation they have been able to achieve over the past 12-8 months.
At this point you're probably thinking, "oh great, yet another story where NetApp tells me they saved somebody money using virtualization...". You're right, that seems to be one of the things we highlight quite a bit these days. But the conclusion to Ben's story had a fun twist. The last line of his PPT said...
- We used the money we saved to buy MacBook Pro's for the IT group
Keep up the great work Ben. The products you help ship every day are a favorite at dress up time with my kids, and working time for my wife!!
